Sarah Welsh (she/her)
Drawing, Painting, & Mixed Media Instructor
I began life as a dancer who morphed into an actor, then visual artist, all the while writing through all of these stages. Whether I’m immersed in my own creation or serving as a teaching guide for other artists—my biggest love and abiding friend is the creative process itself!
These days, I no longer invest in the quandary of whether I am “good”, but rather simply show up to “make” and see what happens. Will I fall flat, find a spark of brilliance, or something else entirely? Usually it’s the ‘something else’ with a pinch of awe and a teaspoon of WTF thrown in. That keeps it interesting and maybe that’s why I feel drawn to my ‘friend’ the creative process. She insists that I partake in the conversation and take the opportunity to respond—and for that—I feel grateful. (And I say “Yes”!)
For many years at Multnomah Arts Center, I taught the “littles” in family art classes, and older kids in summer camps and drawing and painting classes. About a decade ago, I got a full-time job teaching art with a long commute, and sadly, I had to stop teaching classes here. It’s a joy to return to this amazing community at MAC surrounded by such unique talents.
