Brian Shannon

Drawing, Painting, & Printmaking Instructor

Brian Shannon is Artist and Educator living in Portland, Oregon since 1987. Brian was a long-time Professor and Head of Foundations teaching and mentoring at Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon from 1993 until the college closed in May of 2019 in the Drawing and Painting, Book and Print Departments. Prior to working full-time at OCAC, Brian was an Assistant Professor for 11 years teaching Printmaking and Visual Elements at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.

Brian earned an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and his BFA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Brian works at and runs Off-Ramp Studio in Portland’s, Pearl District and his work combines the printmaking mediums of intaglio, lithography and relief as well as mixed media sculpture. Brian was included in Portland Printmaking Now at Waterstone Gallery, Portland, Oregon and Ink This: Contemporary Printmaking in the Northwest at the Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, Washington. Brian was a 2014 Artist-in-Residence at Caldera Arts at Blue Lake in the Central Oregon Cascades. He exhibits his work regionally and nationally and has work in the collection of the New York Public Library, New Orleans Museum Of Art, Portland Art Museum, Portland Visual Chronicles and the Jordan D. Schnitzer Print Collection.
