Gesine Krätzner - ceramic sculpture in the Front Gallery

Re Pinter, Molly Lecko Herro and Phoebe Mol – cartoon-based arts in the Center Gallery

These colorful ceramic creatures made by Gesine Krätzner vary in size but are equally large in personality and heart. Often seen holding hands or otherwise linking limbs, they explore their world with a magical humaneness. Krätzner is a Portland-based artist with a long career in animation. She was born in Germany, and studied art in Stuttgart and London before coming to the United States. Some years ago she began exploring sculpture, and her “motley crew of fantastical creatures” has evolved into a mainstay of her arts practice. She has been featured by Oregon Public Broadcasting twice in the past decade, and has exhibited extensively.

“Fishbone Harp” is a group show by Molly Lecko Herro, Phoebe Mol and Re Pinter. All are cartoonists exploring storytelling in unique ways. Molly says that she “immediately began drawing” as a child, and she continues to work on paper with graphite and ink or watercolor to this day. Re works primarily in charcoal on vintage typewriter paper, and explores “existentialism, optimistic nihilism and the human instinct to barter with god.” Phoebe is a multimedia artist whose work “softens the borders between memory, relationship, and dreams.” All have authored multiple comics over the past several years. They have recently formed a collective and are now making art together as well. Their show at MAC will be in the Center Gallery, and includes both 2D and 3D elements.

This show is made possible by grant support from the Regional Arts and Culture Council.

Join us for the artists’ reception on Saturday, June 28th from 1-3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
