Rene Cooper has enjoyed working with children for the last 20 years as a preschool teacher, a daycare provider, and as full-time caregiver to a special needs child. She taught preschool in Studio City, California and Pahoa, Hawaii before settling in with her husband, of Portland, in 2012. Her teaching experience includes developing and teaching curriculum within both the Waldorf and the Montessori philosophies and principles of early childhood education. She is a strong believer in the importance of teaching young children through an emphasis on Process over Product. She has also been a trainer and educator in the Gymboree Play & Music Programs. These experiences have allowed her to utilize the best of all of these disciplines in order to create a very diverse classroom experience.
Rene received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from the California Institute of the Arts. She has training and occupational certificates in the fields of Preschool Associate Teacher and Infant Care Teacher. She enjoys modern and contemporary dance, art therapy, music and songwriting, as well as water sports, backpacking, mountaineering, gardening, and cooking.
