Little Artists Preschool – Assistant Teacher

I moved to Portland Oregon in April 2013 after spending most of my life on the East Coast and one year in Texas following my graduation form Savannah College of Art and Design where I received my BFA in performing arts. My vivid memories of Portland, from visiting my uncle here as a ten year old, along with the progressive nature of Portland, with citizens who highly value art and conservation, drew me to the city. I look forward to continuing to grow my involvement with the wonderful community here in Portland.

I have experience in costume, prop and set design, acting, improvisation, dancing and choreography. I have always put great value in the benefits of arts education. I strongly believe that education in performing arts can do wonders for any students’ ability in all subject matters because of the many different disciplines that are involved in putting on a show. I fell in love with early childhood education when I started my first job in my home town of Herndon, Virginia, working in a school house preschool located on the historic farm Frying Pan Park. Since then, I have worked with the Alexandria The Educational Theater Company, The Savannah Children’s Theater and the Artisan Center Theatre in Hurst, TX. One of my most enriching experiences was coaching Odyssey of the Mind for May Howard Elementary School’s fifth grade team. Odyssey is a wonderful creative competition for kindergarten through college that challenges students to think outside the box and hone their problem solving skills. I am proud to say that my team placed well enough to make it all the way to the world competition in 2012. As a MAC preschool assistant teacher my goal is to cultivate in the students the same passion for learning through art that I have found throughout my own life.
