Applied Art – Metalsmithing
Jo Haemer started creating jewelry in 1969. She is a second-generation artist who studied jewelry in high school and graduated early to study art at the University of Oregon, majoring in jewelry and metals. She is a Liturgical Silversmith, served in a formal apprenticeship at the Jeweler’s Union, and was the first woman journeyman bench worker also in the Jeweler’s Union. Jo has worked in various trade and manufacturing shops and was instrumental in building the Portlandia Statue. She has operated custom jewelry workshops in Oregon, Minnesota, and Louisiana and as a jeweler with Zell Brothers for 7 years.
