The Ray Trayle Print Prize
Award Ceremony will be held on Friday,
the 13th of June 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Trayle Print Studio in the Multnomah Art Center.
Nicole Rawlins is the winner of the 2014 Ray Trayle Print Prize.
Royal Nebeker will receive a special letter of recognition.
Portland Printmaker Nicole Rawlins has been selected for this year’s prize for the beautiful etchings she has been making for the past 20 years. She is a BFA graduate in painting and printmaking from Oregon State University, and a printmaking instructor at Multnomah Arts Center since 1997. Her work is included in the collections of Oregon State University, the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Willamette University and the Portland Art Museum Gilkey Center.
The Committee is also awarding a special letter of recognition to Royal Nebeker for his beautiful monoprints and strong advocacy of printmaking in Oregon. He is represented in Portland by Augen Gallery, has a studio in Astoria, Oregon and teaches printmaking at Clatsop Community College. Royal Nebeker has an extensive 45 year national and international exhibition history.
Both Nicole Rawlins and Royal Nebeker exemplify the highest standards in their work and the generosity of spirit that Ray Trayle left us in his legacy of over 60 hand built presses for local printmakers. The annual print prize is awarded both to honor Ray and those artists whose work deserves recognition from their printmaking peers. Last year’s winner was Tom Prochaska and previous winners are Jonnel Covault, John Saling, Frank Boyden, Crows Shadow Institute of the Arts, Hibiki Miyazaki, Jim Hibbard, Liza Jones, Christy Wyckoff, Jack McLarty and Sheryl Funkhouser.
