Clay Workshop Dec. 7 – 8
Special Clay Demonstration & Lecture with Jeff Oestreich
Ages 13 & Up
Based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, Jeff Oestreich creates geometrically designed, functional pottery that is primarily salt or soda fired. Having worked with Warren MacKenzie in college, and apprenticed to Bernard Leach at St. Ives in Great Britain, Jeff has exhibited throughout the country and the world, and is included in the collections of the the Victoria and Albert Museum; the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan and the Kansas City Museum.
“The majority of my work is intended for daily use to examine form, glaze, pattern and surface as well as to experience the challenge of designing a pot which feels comfortable to the hand.”
Day one of this workshop is devoted to demonstrating the making of shapes on the wheel, later altered by either faceting, stretching, darting or cutting and rejoining. Day two involves demos on assembling these forms, decoration, and discussions on the surface achieved in a salt (soda) firing. A slide presentation is included.
