Perfect for the beginner who wants to see results fast. A wide variety of techniques are covered, allowing you to go home feeling like an accomplished metalsmith. Learn the basics of sawing, drilling, making your own ear wires (using a jig and free-form), dapping/doming, planishing and adding a patina to your metal. Use techniques like lamination of thin gauge metals to create lightweight jewelry with big visual impact. No prerequisite. Price includes a $35 materials and studio fee which is non-refundable after class begins.

Solar Plate Etching

Ages 13 & Up

Create a series of prints from a solar plate using the intaglio etching method. Work from your own drawing, photo or image and transfer it to the plate via a UV exposure box. Techniques taught include: chine collé, the use of color, black and white intaglio inks and hand-coloring finished prints. Students cannot miss first class. Price includes a $25 studio and materials which is non-refundable after class begins. This covers most materials, however students will need to provide their own editioning paper.

Intermediate Spinning Lab

Ages 13 & Up

Trouble shooting! New techniques! Exotic fibers! Join us to hone your spinning skills. No wheel? Use one of MAC’s. New wheel? Adjust it to fit your spinning style. Fibers available for play include mohair, alpaca, silk and cotton. Plenty of individual attention. Possible avenues for exploration: Navajo three-ply, spinning long draw, spinning from the fold. Prerequisite basic spinning.

Seeing & Photographing What We See

Ages 18 & Up

This is a 4-class intensive for those who are eager to vastly improve their photographic skills and seeing. Doing is learning! We will have 3 outdoor trips to beautiful locations followed by one class where we will evaluate what we have made. Demonstrations on technique and what can be done with post processing to make prints worthy of framing. Digital SLR or the adjustable point and shoot cameras are recommended. Students need to have working knowledge of their camera and provide their own transportation for the outings.

Figure Painting Workshop

Ages 18 & Up

Learn fundamental figure painting techniques. Start with a charcoal line drawing, which will be transferred to canvas. Then develop color, modeling form and refining details.
